I discovered Eckhart Tolles "The Power of Now" while studying at University and was forever changed by its teachings.
This powerful spiritual enlightenment guide challenged my previous beliefs and taught me the value of living in the present moment. The impact was truly incredible, especially during University when things were truly unknown about my life, and it helped me stay focused on both my spiritual and academic journeys.
Living in the present moment is a personal journey that can bring us a deeper sense of peace and happiness. In many ways and I’m sure most can relate, life is a roller coaster ride with ups and downs, and it is never perfect. Stressful situations and difficulties are sometimes unavoidable, but realizing the principle of accepting it is valuable because everything helps shape and mould us into who we are today.
Living in the moment is therefore difficult and always part of those life lessons.
This idea has been a guiding force in my life for many years, as I was exposed to it at a young age through my studies in psychology, as well as my own personal search for wisdom through philosophical inquiry. My university degree in psychology, coupled with my own curiosity and thirst for knowledge, led me to read numerous books on the subject, further solidifying this concept in my mind.
I have always been introspective and focused on self-reflection, and I have made a conscious effort to cultivate a forgiving attitude and to live in the present moment. Despite my best efforts, I am aware that I am not perfect and that there are many things I have suppressed, such as emotional reactions to certain triggers, that may have had a more significant impact on my life if I hadn't been so focused on living in the moment.
I believe that the lessons life teaches us are invaluable, as they shape our perspectives, emotions, and interactions with the world. This is why it is crucial to embrace challenges and understand that they are a vital component of our personal growth and development.
By living in the present moment, we are able to disconnect from the worries and distractions of the past and future, and instead focus on the little things in life that bring us joy and fulfillment. This practice allows us to fully immerse ourselves in each moment, feeling more connected to our lives and the world around us. To me, the ability to truly live in the moment is truly priceless, and it is what brings meaning and purpose to our existence.
Life can sometimes feel monotonous and routine, and it can be difficult to find inspiration and connection. However, I have found that by focusing on the beauty and magic of each moment, I am able to feel more connected to the world around me and to my own life. Living in the present has taught me that each moment is a precious gift and that it is up to me to make the most of it.
To deepen my connection to the present moment, I have immersed myself in nature, particularly developed true love with the ocean, which has become a source of great joy and inspiration for me. The experience of being in its presence is just one of the many ways in which I have been able to thrive by embracing each moment as it comes. It reminds me and cultivates me to live my life with purpose and meaning, being mindful and intentional in my thoughts and actions.
Nature is a great way to stay present and find peace and tranquility. The soothing sounds of birds chirping in the morning or the rustling of leaves in the wind, the breathtaking sight of a sunset, or the awe-inspiring beauty of a snow-covered landscape can all serve as grounding forces that bring you back to the present moment. Truly reading "The Power of Now" can be a great starting point for finding a personal meaning and connection to the present moment. I really recommend you buy the book so you can experience it how it’s meant to you.
As someone who underlines all of their books, I still have my marked copy and am eager to share some sentences here:
"The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however it becomes very destructive. To put it accurately, it is not so much that you use your mind wrongly – you usually don’t use it at all. It uses you. This is the disease. You believe that you are your mind . This is the delusion. The instrument has taken over you." p.16
" Everything is shown up by being exposed to the light and whatever is exposed to light itself become light." p.39
"Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past and not enough presence." p.61
"Stress is caused by being “here” but wanting to be “there” or being in the present but wanting to be in the future." p.84
The lessons from this book can help shape many peoples lives and inspire us to live in the moment and find peace and happiness within. I feel that Tolle's writing style is simple yet insightful, and he presents complex spiritual concepts in an understandable manner. He encourages you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings and to observe them objectively.
This is why "Power of Now" is not just a book but can offer a transformative journey of self-discovery.Whether you are looking for spiritual enlightenment or simply more peace and fulfilment in your life, this book is for you.
